The tour will take a look at the Mall, from how it began as an empty field to its present day.  Before the National Gallery of Art was here, a the Washington Canal flowed along Constitution Ave. and across the site where the the museum is now.  After the call was filled in, the Baltimore & Potomac RR station sat on this same site.  This was the site of a tragedy, when President Garfield was assassinated in the train station.  With the turn of 20th century, Congress decided to beautify the Mall and that meant the destruction of the train station.

Now the Mall features a great outdoor sculpture gallery with an ice rink!
